FAQ

  • Where are you based?
I am in Colliers Wood on the Northern Line, southbound in Zone 3. Full address is given at the time of booking. I am a 5 minute walk from the station.
  • Do you offer advice on clothes/make-up/facial hair?
My confirmation email includes full details but I suggest that you take a selection of tops that make you feel good and are comfortable to wear. Have a think about your possible casting and how your clothes could support that.
I don’t usually advise on using a make-up artist as it’s important that your head shot looks as you would for a casting. Basic make-up is best to start with and we can add to it as we shoot for a stronger look. You are welcome to shave half way through.
  • Do you take US style images?
Yes I do. These landscape images can be very filmic and a great addition to your portfolio.
  • What is included in the retouching?
Natural retouching includes colour grading, contrast, tone, blemishes, stray hairs, under eye shadow’s etc. I do not overly retouch or air brush as the image needs to be an honest representation of you.
  • How long is the shoot?
Each shoot lasts as long as is necessary to achieve what we both want but my standard shoot usually lasts up to 2 hours and my creative portfolio shoot up to 3 hours.
  • Do you charge a deposit?
No, I don’t charge a deposit or cancellation fee. I do ask though that should you need to move your shoot that you give as much notice as possible. I also understand that last minute castings will come through so I can be flexible.
  • Are there indoor facilities at your location?
Yes, toilet, kitchen, somewhere private to change etc.
  • How do you accept payment?
I prefer bank transfer but I can also accept cash on the day.
  • Do I receive all the images taken?
I don’t supply raw files or high resolution proofs. Images are hand retouched by myself and this is a big part of the shoot. You are supplied with images that are of the best quality and ready to use. I keep all the images on file and you can order further retouched images at any stage.
If you would like all the proofs from the shoot to look through in more detail at a later stage I can send them as low resolution files for £20 but please note, only retouched images can be used.
  • Can I retouch my own images and add a filter on social media?
Images should not be amended in any way once received. I take great care to perfect your images and give them my style of finish with detailed retouching. Any further retouching or adding a filter on social media is strictly not allowed. If you did wish for any further retouching please just let me know.
  • Do you provide prints?
No. Most casting directors and agents will use websites or email to send and receive images. I do recommend ‘Visualeyes’ though for printing.
  • Do you shoot at the weekend?
Yes, subject to availability I can shoot weekends at no extra charge.
  • What are your working hours and how do I book?
I can generally shoot from 9am until a last shoot start at 3pm, which allows for the best use of daylight depending on the time of year. Please contact me to book, stating when you would like to come in for a session then I can send you my availability.
  • What are your turnaround times?
Proofs are generally sent to you within 2 days. Retouched images usually within 4-7 working days from receiving your chosen selection. If you do have a deadline a quicker turnaround can be arranged.
  • What if we have to re schedule?
I will be able to book you in again fairly close to your original date. I have processing days scheduled into my week and I am happy to open these up if we did need to move your shoot unexpectedly.
  • Do you shoot joint sessions?
If you would like to book a joint session with another actor, then yes, this can be arranged with a discount. Please contact me to discuss.
  • Do you only shoot actors?
I work with all performers. I also shoot young actors and take corporate headshots and personal branding images.
  • Who owns the copyright once the photograph has been taken?
All supplied images remain the property and copyright of the photographer, ‘Karen Scott’ and are protected under copyright laws. They are licensed for standard headshot usage such as personal and agent websites, social media, theatre programmes, Spotlight, Mandy etc. All images MUST be clearly credited to ‘Karen Scott’ or ‘Karen Scott Photography’ wherever they are used and for social media they must be tagged and captioned @karenscottphoto. For any other usage such as commercial or advertising you must contact the photographer.
